Wakulla High School Academic Team Takes Third in State
Wakulla High School Academic Team performed the tremendous feat of placing third in Division III of the state championship called the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge. Over 50 Florida school districts sent Academic Teams, informally known as Brain Bowl Teams, to the 22nd annual competition.
The War Eagle team consists of seniors Catai Ives, Will
Shepherd, Jonathan Johnson, and Mason Alford; junior Michael Andrews;
and freshman Carole Toler. Their sponsor is WHS English and reading
teacher Shari Evans. “The students made a tremendous effort and were
basically only one question away from capturing the state
championship. It was a very exciting tournament and I am proud of
them. Their efforts in studying all year certainly paid off,” stated
Evans.
Doing well in several regional competitions this year, the
War Eagle team earned first place for the fifth year in a row at the
North Florida Community College competition in November.
Observed
Superintendent David Miller, “The Wakulla High team certainly made our
school district proud and represented Wakulla County well. We have
excellent students here who have shown they are competitive with any
other students in the state.”
The Commissioner’s Academic
Challenge was sponsored by the Florida Department of Education, the
Polk County School District, and the Florida High Athletic Association.
