Wakulla High School 2007 College and Career Day a Success

Wakulla High School Hosts College and Career Day

bethune cookman 200.gif{sidebar id=3} Wakulla High held their annual "College and Career Day"  for all Juniors and Seniors on Monday, September 17, 2007 in the high school gym from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m.  This year's theme was "Ride the Wave to a Great College Career", and the gym was decorated appropriately.  Approximately 30 universities, community colleges and vocational/technical schools were on hand to talk to students and share information with them about their schools and services.  Students visited each booth, gathering up information on scholarships, enrollment requirements, financial aid, etc., as well as some free goodies as they went along.

ambassadors 250.gif Some parents also attended the event with their students to gather information of their own.  The Seniors attended the event at 12:10 p.m., and the Juniors at 1:10 p.m.  A group of student ambassadors were on hand to help the juniors and seniors find the colleges they were interested in, and also to help the vendors with setting up their booths.  The ambassadors, all sophomores, were chosen based on their GPAs; the top six in their class.  This group of students included Casey Henderson, Shelbi Barrow, Matt Andrews, Jamie Trindell, Carole Toler, and Victoria Hamel (all pictured above, L to R).

Some of the colleges that were in attendance included:

  • Florida State University
  • Florida A & M University
  • Tallahassee Community College
  • Lively Vo-Tech
  • Troy University
  • Barbazon School of Modeling
  • Thomas University
  • Warner Southern
  • Louisiana State University
  • Johnson & Wales (strong Culinary program)
  • Keiser College
  • Aveda Institute
  • North Florida Cosmetology
  • Tulsa Welding

...and many more.  Sylvan and Kaplan were also in attendance to share information on their Test Prep Mini-Courses for the SAT and ACT tests.  Hancock Bank and Nelnet had tables set up for students to learn about their financial aid packages and programs.

The event coordinators would like to thank Wakulla Bank for providing supplies, Pam Evans culinary classes for providing the refreshments, Cassie Tucker's art classes for providing the decorations, and Dennis Litchfield and his students for supplying decorative surfboards.
