Music Students Represent WHS at District Festival
On Saturday, November 18, five members of the Wakulla High School Vocal Ensemble particpated in Solo/Ensemble Festival at Leon High School. The festival is an annual Florida Vocal Association Event. Those who wish to participate must memorize two songs and sing before a judge for a rating and constructive feedback. It is an extra-curricular activity, requiring students to learn their music independently. Only classical music can be presented and Wakulla students sang in three different languages: English, German, and Italian.
Three soloists and a quartet ably represented WHS. The quartet sang for comments only (no rating), and received favorable and helpful feedback. This is the first time WHS has entered a small ensemble in the event. Rhiannon Vinson, a junior who participated for the first time, received an Excellent rating. Patricia Gordon, a junior and another first-time participant, and Sarah Dix-Martin, a senior, both received Superior ratings for their solo performances.
Wakulla High School has two singing groups: Chorus, open to all, and Vocal Ensemble, an audition only choir; and is a member of the Florida School Music Association. The two groups will be presenting their Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the WHS Auditorium. The concert is free-of-charge and open to the public.
