Matthew Sharp Receives Nomination from Teacher and Peers
Matthew Sharp, son of Sherry and John Sharp, was voted Wakulla High School’s DAR Good Citizen nominee. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors this scholarship competition and Matthew and several other WHS seniors were nominated by teachers. Members of the senior class then voted for the one student that they would like to represent them in this program.
The scholarship competition consists of two parts. The first part consists of a personal statement and resume of high school activities plus two letters of recommendation from a community member and a school representative. The second part consists of an essay, the topic of which is unknown until the student sits down to write. The student is given two hours to complete this portion of the competition. The assembled materials have been sent to the sponsoring DAR Chapter for consideration.
Matthew shines as an athlete, scholar and a community volunteer. He has been an active member of the baseball and football teams. He is a member of the Wakulla High School National Honor Society, the National Honor Roll and the National Society of High School Scholars. His service to the community includes hurricane relief, blood drive participant and canned food drive.
In his letter of recommendation, Wakulla High School baseball coach, Mike Gauger stated, “Matthew is a very cooperative young man…….who will go the extra mile to be of assistance.” While Pastor Calbert Lesley of The Rock Ministry, says that Matthew is “a mentor to young people at church.”
