Crawfordville Elementary School “Eco-Ambassadors” Learn about Wakulla's Environment
{sidebar id=3}Crawfordville Elementary School’s “Eco-Ambassador’s “ Club meet monthly after school to learn about their environment, how to live healthy, and how to take better care of their community. The club consists of 45 fourth and fifth graders, and the sponsors are Maggie Strickland, Angela Den Bleyker, Renee Kelly and Barbara Updegraff. Various guest speakers have been invited to share about topics that relate to their surrounding area and specifically, Wakulla County.
The club’s latest guest speaker, Bob Livingston, came to school and demonstrated the techniques of a beekeeper. Mr. Livingston, a member of the Apalachicola Beekeepers Association, brought bee hives to show the students “up close and personal” how a bee works in a hive, what the queen bee looks like, how honey is retrieved, the safety procedures necessary when working with bees, and how many bees can live in one hive. The students eagerly watched in amazement as Mr. Livingston carefully handled the bees and discussed the characteristics of different kinds of bees. At the conclusion of the demonstration, Mr. Livingston shared samples of honey and made everyone participating leave with a “sweet smile.”
Crawfordville Elementary School appreciates Mr. Livingston volunteering his time and looks forward to his visit again in April when he will speak to the entire school.
