Shadeville Elementary
School News

March, 2008

by Principal Susan Brazier

Spring is on its way and the Shadeville Warriors are gearing up for the opportunities that present themselves in March to “show what you know,” as well as enjoy some special activities that are taking place throughout the school.

On March 3rd students will join in with an estimated 50 million other students across the nation to celebrate “Read Across America”.  The literary event takes place each year in honor of  Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Teachers will adorn “Cat in the Hat” caps while reading some of Dr. Seuss’ favorites such as:  The Lorax, Horton Hears a Who, or There’s a Wocket in My Pocket.  Guest readers have been invited to Shadeville to share some of their favorite books with our students via the WSVS morning news program, in classrooms, the lunchroom, and on our playground.  Students will enjoy a special red, white, and blue treat for the day too.  We encourage you to take the opportunity to enjoy some favorite books with your child too.  So go ahead, join in the fun and help us “Read Across America.”

Kindergarten parents mark you calendars for March 7th “The Greatest Show on Earth” is coming to Shadeville.  Lions, strongmen, tightrope walkers and more can be seen practicing to perfect their skills for the kindergarten’s annual circus presentation.  It is a time / memory you won’t want to miss!

The testing season is in full swing beginning Tuesday, March 11th  through March 20th.  Students in all grade levels, kindergarten through fifth grade, will be testing this year.  The testing dates vary depending on your child’s grade level, so please take note of the dates for each grade at the end of this article.  Academic tests are important for your child, because they provide teachers and parents with information concerning grade level skills that have been attained, as well as those needing further attention.  As always, please make sure you help your child do their best by: getting a good night’s sleep, eating a breakfast full of protein, getting up early enough in the morning not to feel rushed, arriving at school on time each day, letting your youngster know you think the test is important , and sending them off with words of encouragement.

Mrs. Jamison and Mrs. Greene, our fine librarian and assistant, are gearing up for a spring book fair during the week of March 24th – 28th.  They will send home more information in the weeks to come.  The book fair will be open daily from 8:00am until 4:00pm.  Students will also have an opportunity to visit the book fair during their regularly scheduled library day.

From all of us at Shadeville Elementary School – Have a bright and beautiful spring and a wonderful Easter.
