Riversprings Bears Go To Washington

Riversprings Bears Go To Washington

white house group 2009 300.gifTwenty-six students from Riversprings Middle School spent their Spring Break experiencing history first hand during a trip to Washington D.C.  The students and chaperones flew to our Nation's capital and spent four days touring the historic city.   Visits to the U.S. Capitol, the White House, the Lincoln, Jefferson, and FDR Memorials and Mount Vernon gave students a new perspective on our government and the people who influenced it.  The sacrifices made for our freedom made a deep impression on the students at Arlington National Cemetery and the WWII, Vietnam, and Korean War Memorials.

Some of the most fun was had seeing dinosaurs, diamonds, airplanes, space modules, ruby slippers, and much more at the Smithsonian museums and pandas, lions, and gorillas at the National Zoo.  One of the biggest highlights of the trip for everyone was a ride to the top of the Washington Monument for a birds-eye view of the city.

{sidebar id=3}Fund raising efforts helped students go on the trip who might otherwise have not been able to.  The students worked hard and it paid off.  Trip organizer and eighth grade teacher Brian Dow plans to make it an annual event and next year's trip is already being organized.  “We're getting an early start to allow more time for fundraising so as many students as possible will be able to share in this great experience.” he says.

If you are the parent of a student at Riversprings, there will be an informational meeting Thursday, May 14th at 6:30PM in the Riversprings cafetorium.  Any questions prior to the meeting can be directed to Mr. Dow at dowb@wakulla.k12.fl.us.
