Whoa, horsey! That’s the thought right now at the ol’ corral after two weeks of statewide testing. Our little Mustangs trotted right along doing their very best until everything was completed. They are looking forward to the rest of the semester with a little less pressure and a whole lot of spring time educational fun.
Mrs. Corrigan’s kindergarten class is getting in the spirit of spring time. They finished up their last letters for Fun Friday snacks, and planted their annual flower garden with an assortment of seeds. The plants are peeking through the soil, and the students are eagerly anticipating some beautiful results before they leave for summer vacation.
What else does spring bring? It brings the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and our annual Spring Carnival. Students were able to purchase a very cool bracelet sporting the slogan “Mustangs Giving Change for Changes in Cancer” to support Relay. The Relay “Walk for Life” took place at Wakulla High School on April 20th and 21st with many of our Mustangs trotting around the track in support of our loved ones who have suffered from this deadly disease.
Our Spring Carnival held Friday, May 4th is our largest school fundraiser. As usual, students, parents, and community members joined in the fun. The help and support of everyone involved contributed in making the festival a huge success.

Spring is a celebration of new birth, and Rachel Ryan will be celebrating soon! The stork has been flying over Medart Elementary for the past few days just waiting to deliver her baby girl. Rachel was given a baby shower by our faculty and staff on Thursday, March 15th. We can’t wait to see the new little one in her pretty new outfits!
What else do we look forward to in spring? The annual Book Fair. Mrs. Tillman worked very hard preparing for this event which raises money for library materials and new books. The Book Fair took place during the week of March 23rd through 30th, with a special Family Night held on March 27th.
Mrs. Callaghan’s fourth grade class took advantage of the lovely spring weather and blasted off the rockets they’ve been working so hard to construct and name. Thanks to an Air Force Association Grant, students were able to enjoy a week of instruction in basic aerospace and physical science by applying the Laws of Motion to their rocket launch.
What would Medart Elementary be without its annual Spring Talent Show? Mrs. Chandler worked very hard to coordinate a wonderfully entertaining program that show-cased the many talents of our little Mustangs.
Mrs. Perez, our art teacher, joined hands with other special area teachers in the district to present the talents of many students district wide. The proceeds from this event will go towards a scholarship for a Wakulla High Student that wants to further their education. Our hearts were heavy this past month as we all got the news of the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Our thoughts and prayers go out to these students, their families, and the entire university.
Let’s all continue to be thankful that we have not had to deal with something so horrible and hopefully never will. We need to reflect on how important it is to care about each other and realize the importance of a loving community.
On a more positive note, we wish all of you a wonderful spring and a restful summer break—it’s almost here!
