Wakulla Teachers Complete Phase 1 of Leadership Development Program
Developing School Leaders for the 21st century is the main goal of the Wakulla County School District Human Resources Leadership Development Plan. “The Wakulla County School District offers a two-year leadership development program for aspiring leaders,” said Karen Wells, HR Executive Director. She continues, “Phase 1 of the program includes eight district awareness seminars offered by district administrators, job shadow experiences, community involvement participation, leadership activities, literature review and portfolio development.”
The Leadership Development Program is designed to meet the requirements of The William C. Golden Professional Development Program. This plan is a commitment on behalf of Superintendent David Miller to provide leadership for our schools now and in the future. David Miller adds, “Our vision is to produce leaders who have the knowledge and skills to lead quality schools and to continually improve our schools and increase student achievement. I commend those who have participated and completed Phase 1.”
This year’s Phase 1 completers include: Diane Perez, Jessica Stubbs, and Connie Worrill from Medart Elementary School; Cathy Howard-Williams and Frankie Harvey from Crawfordville Elementary School; Ashley Anderson and Janie Tucker from Pre-K; Jessica Skelton from Shadeville Elementary School; and Pam Smith from Wakulla High School. They all successfully completed Phase 1 on May 5, 2008.
Leadership participant Ashley Anderson shared, “I have a better understanding of the district and all aspects involved in meeting the needs of Wakulla County students. It takes a lot to be committed to success for all students.” Connie Worrill agreed and added, “I have a better perspective of the big picture. This has been a terrific overview.” Janie Tucker applauded the presentations, “While there are many facets of the school district, they all share a common goal – improving the education of Wakulla County’s most precious resource – the children.” Jessica Skelton noted, “Through collaboration and networking, I have learned no task is impossible.” Diane Perez stated, “I have an increased appreciation of the in depth knowledge, the multiple assignments and dedication of our school administrators.” Frankie Harvey continued with, “This has been an eye-opening experience.” “The Leadership Development Program has provided numerous insights into administration. I have gained a better understanding of how the district operates and an in depth perspective of the principal’s role,” Jessica Stubbs stated. Pam Smith also added, “I have more knowledge how the administrative side of education works for the betterment of our students and community."
