Wakulla School District Holds Induction Ceremony

induction ceremony 11-18-08 017.gifThe Wakulla County School Board conducted their official ceremony Tuesday night, November 18, for inducting Superintendent David Miller and School Board Members Mike Scott and Greg Thomas into office for another term.  The traditional ceremony was held much like it has been for the past 25 years.

Superintendent David Miller begins his 14th year and 4th full term in office.  He was originally appointed in 1995 by Governor Lawton Chiles and has now been elected as Superintendent of Schools.  His wife, Delores, held the Bible while he took his oath into office.  Superintendent David Miller said, “I stand proudly beside this school board.  They unselfishly make decisions to do what is in the best interest of our students.”

District 2 School Board Member Mike Scott begins his 4th term in office.  He was joined by his wife, Nikki and his pastor from Lake Ellen Baptist Church.  Mr. Scott added, “I am looking forward to four more years of commitment and dedication to the school district.”  District 4 School Board Member Greg Thomas begins his 3rd term and he was joined by his wife, Kristi and his grandmother.  School Board Member Greg Thomas shared with the audience that his grandfather and great-grandfather both served as Wakulla County School Board Members in the early 1900’s.  His great-grandfather actually walked from Curtis Mill to school board meetings, a distance of approximately 20 miles, and spent the night with the local judge before walking home the next day.  Mr. Thomas said, “I am grateful for the opportunity that the people of Wakulla County have given me to serve our children for four more years.”

The School Board elected Becky Cook as the chairperson for the 2008-2010 term and Mike Scott as the co-chair.  The School Board agreed to conduct meetings on the 3rd Monday of the month at 5:45 p.m. unless Monday falls on a holiday and the meeting will then take place the following Tuesday.  Other days will be set aside as needed for workshops.
