Wakulla County Special Olympics Athletes Compete in Orlando
Ten Special Olympics Florida Wakulla County Athletes accompanied by county coordinator Ms. Sharon Scherbarth traveled to Orlando for state competition in bowling October 31-November 2. All of the athletes were recognized for their achievements in bowling. Three athletes were medal winners. Bringing home gold medals were Bailey Estes and Marcus Kelly. Bradley Erwin earned a silver medal in his division.
{sidebar id=1}Bradley was also selected as Wakulla's Inspirational Athlete. At the closing ceremonies, Bradley was recognized along with Mrs. Denise Ray who was Wakulla's Inspirational Coach. Area coordinators select the recipients of these awards.
Other winning members of team Wakulla who competed were Sarah Andrews, Pam Gay, Betty Mae Bodiford, Casey Green, Alex Dutton, Keith Cline, and Brandon Young. Ms. Scherbarth wishes to thank chaperones David and Deana Scherbarth and Allen Ray as well as Mrs. Tanya English and Superintendent David Miller and others who made this trip possible.
If you are interested in becoming involved with Special Olympics Wakulla, please contact Ms. Scherbarth at 926-7155 or scherbarths@wakulla.k12.fl.us. Your help is welcomed in any capacity. Sponsors, coaches, chaperones, and volunteers are needed as Wakulla's seventy-seven athletes begin preparing for the Spring track and field events. Hopefully, with your help, even more athletes will be able to attend the area and state events next year. "It's all about the athletes," Ms. Scherbarth says. "Be a fan. I am."
