Wakulla County School Officials Place First Brick for New Elementary School “A”

elemaboard1 300.gif Wakulla County Elementary School “A” is progressing and being readied to receive a target enrollment of 500+ K-5 students August 2008.  The ceremonial first brick was put in place by the only two living past or current Wakulla County School Superintendents, Mr. Bill Payne and Mr. David B. Miller, as well as School Board Members and the recently appointed Elementary School “A” Principal, Jackie High.  To help celebrate the event three previous superintendent widows also attended:  Alice Stokley for Roger Stokley, and Anita Townsend for C.L. Townsend.  Mrs. Helen Whaley, wife of former Superintendent Dr. Williams Whaley was out of town and unable to attend.  (Pictured L to R:  School Board Chairman Jerry Evans, School Board Member Mike Scott, Superintendent of Schools David Miller, School Board Member Greg Thomas, Past Superintendent of Schools Bill Payne, School Board Member Ray Gray, Mrs. C. Jackie High will be the Principal for Elementary School “A.”  She is currently the WHS assistant principal.  However, she attended Crawfordville Elementary as a student and has taught at Shadeville Elementary and Medart Elementary.  With experience ranging from kindergarten teacher to high school assistant principal, Mrs. High has a clear vision of a child’s educational experience.

Mrs. High shares, “I have had the privilege of working for some of the best principals around including David Miller, Andrea Carter, Randy Anderson, Mike Crouch and Robert Pearce.  To now be able to open a new school, taking a little of what I have learned from each of them, is an exciting opportunity.  I will strive to take this school to the level of excellence that is the tradition in Wakulla County.”  Jackie High was born and raised in Wakulla.  She graduated from Florida State University was recognized as a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Childhood Education.

A public hearing will be held on Monday, December 17th at 6pm at the School Board Meeting regarding the proposed elementary and middle school rezoning.  For detailed proposed rezoning information please visit www.wakullaschooldistrict.org and click on Elementary School “A.”  The rezoning committee for the elementary and middle schools has addressed overcrowding, class size amendment, future growth, population balance, neighborhoods and feeder patterns.
