Valuable Information about Education in Wakulla

Wakulla County Schools   David Miller
 Crawfordville, Florida    Superintendent
VOLUME XXIV ISSUE II  MARCH 2006

Dear Fellow Employees:

Congratulations to our 2006 Wakulla County Teacher of the Year, Karrie Musgrove from Wakulla High School!  She is a former ESE teacher who is now teaching Intensive Reading to ninth graders.  All around praise goes to every one of our candidates, an outstanding group of 2006 Teachers of the Year from their schools: Pat Alexander, Pre-K; Renee Kelly, Crawfordville; Brooke Mohr, Medart; Pat Thomas, Shadeville; Bill Taylor, Riversprings; and Katherine Spivey, Wakulla Middle.  Karrie Musgrove will go on to represent Wakulla County in the Florida Teacher of the Year program.

Also, congratulations to our newest National Board Certified teachers:  Cynthia Golden and Laura Hudson from Wakulla Middle, Bill Taylor and Sue Hutchins from Riversprings Middle, and Cassie Tucker from Wakulla High.  They add to our ever-growing cadre of teachers who make Wakulla County one of the districts with the highest percentage of National Board Certified teachers in the state.

With such fine educators, it’s no wonder that our students have been taking some notable honors too.  Riversprings eighth grader Megan Rollins won the state Patriots Pen essay contest sponsored by the VFW and WHS junior Deray Ingram won the District II VFW Voice of Democracy speech contest out of eight surrounding counties and will go on to compete further.

All of our schools are beginning to undergo a new district accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which will replace the individual school accreditations.  With a clear district mission that we are “Committed to Success,” we will more than be prepared for our on-site review beginning September 24, 2006.

Thank you for your continued hard work as we make the rest of the school year a productive and enriching time for our students.

Sincerely,

David Miller, Superintendent
Wakulla County Schools
