A PROCLAMATION DECLARING JULY 29TH, 2006,
“MISS MYRTLE MCKENZIE DAY” IN ALL OF WAKULLA COUNTY
Whereas, Miss Myrtle’s 21 years and 10 months of public service makes her the longest serving staff member in the history of the Wakulla County Public Library, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle’s unselfish dedication to her job, the library, and its patrons, nurturing several generations of Wakulla’s children as lifetime readers, has been extraordinary, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle has had exemplary attendance throughout her entire career and has accumulated over 1380 hours of unused sick leave, providing the impetus for the County to begin a special sick leave pool, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle has consistently provided personalized service, as no one else could, to countless library patrons, ensuring that their accounts are not overdue and that they are aware of the latest library materials of interest to them, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle progressed from filing typed catalog cards to mastering the nuances of computerized MARC records, becoming proficient with library computer programs including Quick Card, Bibliofile, Marc Magician, Cat Express, Sirsi, and OCLC, enabling library patrons not only throughout Wakulla County, but all over the world, to access and borrow materials from the library, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle has accepted, sorted, and screened hundreds of thousands of books donated by the public for those precious nuggets that will fill voids in the library collection, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle has voluntarily emptied the book drop and picked up the mail every day including holidays and weekends, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle has ever so diligently watched out for the security of the library, making sure all patrons have left, all doors are locked, all computers are turned off, and coffee pots are unplugged, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle has been a valuable contributing member of the Friends of Wakulla County Public Library, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle has voluntarily scoured bookstores, malls, flea markets, and yard sales to obtain at her own expense literally thousands of books and videos for the enjoyment of library patrons, and
Whereas, Miss Myrtle has voluntarily provided at her own expense, snacks, beverages, and other supplies for library programs and ongoing operations,
Now, therefore, the Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners, hereby proclaims that July 29th, 2006, be declared Miss Myrtle McKenzie Day in all of Wakulla County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, WAKULLA COUNTY, FLORIDA, ON JULY 17TH, 2006.
