Riversprings Bears Trounce Suwannee County Bulldogs 20 - 8
The Riversprings Bears traveled to Live Oak to play the Suwannee county Bulldogs Tuesday September 4th, 2007. Although the Bears learned earlier in the day that they would be without the services of two-way starter Demetrius Lindsey, the Bears didn’t miss a beat. Players stepped up on offense, and the RMS defense went on the attack all night long, leading to a 20 – 8 RMS victory over Suwannee. (Pictured at left: The Bears defense stymies the Bull-pups)
The Bears defense held Suwannee to 27 total yards on the night, while holding the Bulldogs to negative ten yards rushing. The RMS defense was led by Chase Maxwell, Ivery Guyton, Brandon Morgan, and Luke Taylor, each registering four tackles. Taylor added 2 quarterback sacks, while Guyton forced one fumble on the night and Morgan recovered a fumble for the Bears. “The defense dominated the Suwannee offensive line all night long, causing a ruckus in the backfield,” said RMS defensive coordinator Shannon Smith.
Offensively, the Bears were paced by Jordan Montague, Dalton Norman, Dillon Norman, and Luke Taylor. Montague opened up the scoring by throwing a 55 yard touchdown pass to the speedy Dalton Norman. Dalton Norman also added a rushing touchdown and a 2 point conversion. Luke Taylor also joined in on the scoring by slamming home a touchdown run of his own. Dillon Norman carried the bulk of the rushing load, picking up 60 yards on 9 carries. Notably, the Bears offensive line played solid for most of the night. RMS head coach Joe Jacobs said, “I am proud of the way the team played, especially considering it was our first game and on the road.” The coach also added that, “Dillon Norman was a stud for us tonight, and Luke Taylor gave us a physical running presence up the middle.”
The Bears will be back in action on Tuesday, September 18 when they take on the North Florida Christian Eagles at JD Jones Field at Reynolds Stadium.
