RMS Cheerleaders Place First at Perry Regionals

cheer-piccompetitionRounding out an unbelievable season, the 2011-2012 Riversprings Middle School Cheerleaders competed against Branford High School using a competition designed routine in the non-tumbling division and finished in first place.

RMS Cheerleading has not competed in the past six years making this a very exciting year for the squad.

The squad began training in January of 2011 learning the  basics of cheering, jumps, and individual stunts.  They then progressed to sign usage and pyramid stunting.  The gymnastics ability of some of the cheerleaders also contributed to the success of the squad.

During the past school year, the RMS Cheerleaders have participated in parades, football games, basketball games, the FSU Cheerleading Showcase at Florida State University, and the American Championships in Perry, Florida.  At the FSU Cheerleading Showcase, teams from Leon County and surrounding counties performed various competition routines and showcased the skills they have been working on all year.

Some of the schools represented at the showcase were Lincoln High School, Chiles High School, Tallahassee Community College Cheerleading Squad, Florida State University All-Girl Squad and Florida State University Co-Ed Squad.  It was a true honor to be surrounded by such skill, and it also helped to motivate our girls to perform their best in Perry.

At the American Championship Regional Event, the Nature Coast Classic, many teams from surrounding counties came begin their competition track towards the State competition and the National Competition.  Allstar Cheerleading squads were represented and our own Wakulla High School Cheerleading Squad also represented and performed an amazing routine.  The RMS Cheerleading Squad performed and brought home individual medals and a banner to be displayed at the school to showcase their first place win at this regional event.

This group of  girls and their unbelievably supportive and caring parents have obtained a goal that has long been in the sights of the RMS Cheerleading coaching staff.  Without the dedicated, loyal, and motivated parents of the RMS cheerleading squad this achievement would not have been possible.  The girls  and the parents for the 2011-2012 season are the first group this coaching staff has taken to the competition level and they will be very much missed.  We started with a goal in mind, and ended the season with the completion of that goal.... what an awesome feeling!

2011-2012 RMS Cheerleading Squad Members:  Kaitlyn Panzarino, Harley Arrington, Laurlee Holcomb, Saranne Beal, Sarah Collins, Bridgette Smith, Taylor Seber, Skyler Goodwin, Lauren Lewis, Mikayla Hay, Chloe Cutchen, Kaitlyn Sheppard, Abby Tabb, Taylor Starling, Brandi Stevens, Adrianna Mitchell, Stunt Coordinator/Assistant Coach Vannessa Harris and Coach Catherine Harris Small.
