Come Out This Saturday and VolunteerWAKULLA!

Click here to view a News Release drafted by Jessica Welch , Wakulla County’s Policy & Public Information Officer, entitled VolunteerWAKULLA Will Host the 1st Annual Make a Difference Day.  I encourage everyone to join their friends and neighbors in this celebration of America’s Volunteer Spirit.

{sidebar id=1}I’m not sure they are connected, but this is also a week of volunteer opportunities for the Wakulla County Historical Society.  They will be working to prepare the old jail for renovation.  How great will it be to have Florida’s only surviving wooden courthouse next to a museum housed in an old jail?

I can imagine Wakulla County becoming a tourist destination.  We are partnering with the Florida Department of Transportation to upgrade our Airport.  We have commercial sport fishing, golf, hiking trails, bike trails, and beaches.  We have hunting—both still hunting and dog hunting.  Fresh and salt water for diving and fishing.  We have Wakulla Springs, Spring Creek, Wakulla Beach, Shell Point, Mashes Sands, a Wildlife Refuge, and National Forest.  We have new hotels and restaurants within minutes of improved camp sites and primitive camping.  I would love to see the GF&A railroad bed turned into a biking and hiking trail.

With some forethought and planning, Crawfordville, St Marks, Panacea, and Sopchoppy could turn into destinations rather than places to pass through.  Volunteers are making all this happen!

I encourage you to join me as we make Wakulla County the place to work, play, and stay.

Sincerely,

Ed Brimner
Chairman, Wakulla County Commission (District III)
