Wakulla and Franklin Counties Declared Federal Disaster Areas
Wakulla and Franklin were officially declared federal disaster areas on
Thursday, July 14, 2005. This means that residents can now apply
for separate grants that can help in repairing homes and property that
was damaged by Hurricane Dennis, provide temporary housing, and pay for
dental, medical, transportation, funeral, personal property, moving,
and storage expenses that were incurred due to the hurricane.
Eligible counties now include Wakulla, Franklin, Gulf, Bay, Walton,
Okaloosa, Escambia, and Santa Rosa.
FEMA team members are currently accepting claims for hurricane-related
damage at the Livestock Pavilion located at the end of Cedar Drive in
Crawfordville. At least one form of identification is required to
file your claim.

You can also register online at www.FEMA.gov. Click on "Register for Disaster Assistance" in the right-hand column under "Spotlight."
You will need to
have the following data on hand:
- your Social Security number (including spouse)
- address and zip code of the damaged property
- private insurance information, if available
- directions to the damaged home or property
- a telephone number where you can be reached

Your information will be entered into the FEMA database and an
application will be generated. You will then be given a FEMA
application number.
If an inspection of your damaged property is required to process your
application, an inspector will contact you within approximately 10 days
to schedule an appointment. You must be present at the
inspection, and you must have proof of occupancy and ownership to show
the inspector.
