Wakulla and Franklin were officially declared federal disaster areas on Thursday, July 14, 2005.  This means that residents can now apply for separate grants that can help in repairing homes and property that was damaged by Hurricane Dennis, provide temporary housing, and pay for dental, medical, transportation, funeral, personal property, moving, and storage expenses that were incurred due to the hurricane.  Eligible counties now include Wakulla, Franklin, Gulf, Bay, Walton, Okaloosa, Escambia, and Santa Rosa.

FEMA team members are currently accepting claims for hurricane-related damage at the Livestock Pavilion located at the end of Cedar Drive in Crawfordville.  At least one form of identification is required to file your claim.

If you wish to register toll free by phone, call (800)621-FEMA (3362).  You can also register online at www.FEMA.gov.  Click on "Register for Disaster Assistance" in the right-hand column under "Spotlight."

You will need to have the following data on hand:

     - your Social Security number (including spouse)
     - address and zip code of the damaged property
     - private insurance information, if available
     - directions to the damaged home or property
     - a telephone number where you can be reached

For the speech and hearing impaired:  TTY:  1-800-462-7585

Your information will be entered into the FEMA database and an application will be generated.  You will then be given a FEMA application number.

If an inspection of your damaged property is required to process your application, an inspector will contact you within approximately 10 days to schedule an appointment.  You must be present at the inspection, and you must have proof of occupancy and ownership to show the inspector.

Disaster recovery assistance is available without regard to race, color, sex (including sexual harassment), religion, national origin, age, disability, economic status or retaliation.  If you or someone you know has been discriminated against, contact FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).  TTY:  1-800-462-7585.
