Quit Smoking NOW! Class will be Offered at Wakulla County Health Department
The Wakulla County Health Department (WCHD) in partnership with the Big Bend Area Health Education Center is offering the citizens of Wakulla County an opportunity to participate in a new Quit Smoking NOW! class. All individuals who are thinking about quitting smoking or who have made the decision to quit are invited to attend the first session on Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Meetings will be held for five Wednesdays in a row, with a graduation held the final night. The classes are also advertised on the WCHD website: www.wakullahealth.com . The date of the next meeting is Wednesday, February 20, from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm.
{sidebar id=1}In America today, tobacco stands out as the agent most responsible for avoidable illness and death. Millions of Americans consume this toxin on a daily basis. The 2006 Florida Adult Tobacco Survey reported 17.4% of Florida adults ages 26 and over smoke cigarettes, 6.7% smoke cigars, 1/8% use chewing tobacco and snuff, 20% are exposed to secondhand smoke in cars, and 10% are exposed in the home. Do not let yourself or a loved one be a part of these statistics. Come and learn from others as we all learn to cope with the nicotine addiction and kick the habit once and for all!
For more information, to pre-register, or to be placed on a contact list for the next meeting, please call the class facilitator, Ms. Jo Barksdale at (850) 509-7063. We look forward to seeing many people at this meeting, ready to face the New Year of 2008 with a renewed focus on their health!
