National Influenza Vaccination Week begins November 27
{sidebar id=3}The HealthDay (11/25) reported that "the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is emphasizing the week of November 27 to December 2 as National Influenza Vaccination Week." In addition, the American Academy of Family Physicians is promoting "Tuesday, Nov. 27 as Children's Flu Vaccination Day, with a reminder that more than 20,000 children under age five are hospitalized every year as a result of influenza." Health officials are encouraging consumers to get the flu vaccine because there are enough doses for every American this year.
The AP (11/23) pointed out that in New Jersey, state health officials said that "it is still worth getting vaccinated, even as late as January." The CDC recommends the flu vaccine "for people aged 50 and older, those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, healthcare workers and caregivers, as well as children from six months to five years old."
