Crab Apple Park:
Crawfordville's Forgotten Gem
In the heart of Crawfordville lies a long forgotten treasure. Now overgrown and hidden from view, Crab Apple Park (sometimes called Cherry Park) is nestled off Cherry Lane between Oak Street and Azalea Drive, near Wakulla-Arran Road. The park, one of five donated to Wakulla County by Jewel Hudson, also boasts a beautiful sinkhole in the center of the property.
A small, informal group of Wakulla County citizens, known as the Friends of Crab Apple Park, would like to see this park restored to its original state, and are currently working with the Wakulla County Parks and Recreation Department to do so.
Located near the Wakulla County Senior Citizens Center, the park could become a peaceful nature retreat for those who frequent the center, as well as a shady lunch spot for employees of nearby businesses, such as the Health Department, Sheriff’s Office, Animal Shelter, and Capital City Bank. The park could also include an interpretive trail (or boardwalk) leading down to the sinkhole to teach visitors and residents about Karst, sinkholes, and such.
The Friends of Crab Apple Park will work to obtain grant funding to develop the park, protect the existing sinkhole, expand the park if possible, and make the park more accessible to seniors and other members of the community.
The Friends of Crab Apple Park welcomes others to join in their efforts to revitalize the park, and are interested in hearing what fellow Wakulla County citizens would like to see the park become. Please email your thoughts and suggestions directly to

Should this small park have:

An area for shuffleboard?
A walking track?
A Gazebo?
Hand railings on a boardwalk to the sinkhole?
Wheelchair access to the sinkhole?
Security lighting?
Restroom facilities?
Parking lot?

Walking track-- yes, that\'s what it\'s all about.
Parking lot-- we\'ll need parking but a \"lot\" sounds too urban to me.
Most of the other suggestions tent to urbanization of a natural gem.
Shuffleboard for Petesake?
