Stradleigh Honored as Senior Celebrity at Annual Golf Tournament
Ninety-six-year-old Billie Stradleigh is the senior celebrity for the upcoming Wakulla County Senior Citizens Golf Tournament presented by Wakulla Bank and Sheriff David F. Harvey. Proceeds from the event benefit the Wakulla County Senior Citizens Council.
Stradleigh, a native of New York, is an avid reader and active member of her St. Teresa church and the Senior Citizen Center. She has been a lifelong volunteer, serving as a Grey Lady in Texas hospitals, choir mother and school room mother. A longtime member of Eastern Star, she is a charter member and Past Worthy Matron of the Cypress Chapter in Naples. While living in Alaska, Ms. Billie sponsored a Job’s Daughters Bethel, an Eastern Star organization for girls. She has been a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the VFW for 50 years.
She married Norman Stradleigh, then a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, in 1942. She has two children, six grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
“Wakulla County’s senior citizens are an important part of our community’s history and heritage,” said Wakulla Bank President and CEO Walter Dodson. “The Senior Citizens Council is a valuable asset and we are fortunate to have such an organization in our county.”
The Wakulla Senior Citizens Council provides medical transportation, respite care, outreach, recreation, companionship, personal care, nutrition education, home delivered meals, case management, homemaker and chore services, and congregate meals. The council is the central service provider in Wakulla county for supportive and nutrition services under the Older Americans Act and is a Community Care for the Elderly lead agency.
More than $3,000 in prizes will be awarded at the March 23 tournament at the Wildwood Country Club in Medart. For details, please contact Senior Citizens Council Director R.H. Carter at 850/926-7145.
