An exciting, grass roots, Growers Market and Festival will be held in Sopchoppy on Friday afternoon, October 29th, and Saturday morning into mid afternoon, October 30th.
The event will feature organic and unsprayed produce, baked goods, children’s activities, food demonstrations, and live music.
The kickoff event will be held to determine the interest of local consumers and growers to frequent a local market that supports local produce, musicians, informative workshops and demonstrations, plus activities for adults and children. Local growers who do not use pesticides are encouraged to contact Jennifer Taylor at 241-3873 or Debbie Dix at 962-1010.
“I am very excited to offer an event where people can purchase local produce and also have a lot of fun participating in activities,” said Debbie Dix, owner of Posh Java, Organics & Gifts, where the market will be held. “We are planning a market every other week until we gain support, and then we hope to increase the festival and market to a weekly affair.”
On Friday evening, local musician Sammy Tedder will perform from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday morning, a drum circle will kick off the event at 9:30 a.m. and there will be a food demonstration using locally grown foods at 10:30 a.m.
Face painting, a costume contest for both pets and children with prizes, and children’s activities are planned. Bring a non-perishable item of food to be donated to a local food bank, or a can of dog or cat food, and receive a photo of yourself or family member or friend in costume for only $5.00. The photography will be done by Nancy Faircloth Photography.
Look for flyers and advertisements posted locally and in the news media. Interested parties should contact Debbie Dix at 962-1010 for more details.
