Join Us Sat., Feb. 20 for the 44th Annual Wakulla Area Swine Show
The
Wakulla Area Swine Show is an annual event sponsored by the Wakulla
County Youth Fair Association in conjunction with the local 4-H
program. The 44th Annual Wakulla Area Swine Show will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at
10:30am at the Wakulla County Extension facilities, and the public is invited to come out and join in the fun!
In preparation for the highly anticipated event, children purchase their pigs prior to December. From that point on up until the time of the show, participants are required to take complete care of their pigs, on their own. During the Swine Show project children learn many thing about their pigs, like feed requirements, anatomy of the pig, cuts of meat, feed to gain ratio means and information about the agricultural side of raising swine. In addition, this project teaches the children responsibility, dedication, good work habits, cooperation with others, communication skills, and many other qualities to help them become productive adults.
On
Saturday, February 20, 2009 at 10:00am the show will begin with judging
the pigs of comparable weights, and selecting a winner in each weight
category. The winner of each weight class will receive a cash
prize, and then competes for the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand
Champion prized title. The Grand Champion will receive a cash
award and the Reserve Grand Champion will receive one as well. Additionally,
children will have an opportunity to compete in a showmanship
competition age group.
The event schedule is as follows:
10:00 a.m.: Youth Swine Show
11:30 a.m. Pig Scramble
12:00 p.m.: B-B-Q
1:00 p.m.: Awards Ceremony; Sale of Hogs
Immediately following the show, barbeque plates will be sold. Please come out to support the youth and join us for this entertaining event on Saturday, February 20, 2009 at 10:30am at the Wakulla County Extension facilities in Crawfordville. For more information please call (850)926-3931.
