St. Marks Photo Club News and Notes for October

st-marks-photo-club-logo-cleaned-upHello Everyone,

Our October Meeting (Oct. 15) will be a work day at the Crane pen.  We really need volunteers to come help us ready the pen for this years birds.  See below and please respond if you can HELP.

We had a great turn out for our first meeting in the new “Nature’s Classroom” for September.  I know some of you are like me and it will still be called “the cabin” (the building that was replaced).

We went over upcoming events but those that were at the meeting requested an email reminder, and we wanted to reach everyone that was unable to come, and all our new members.

Oct. 8, Saturday… Wood Stork Festival

Held at Harvey Young Farm and 3Y Ranch

The Photo Club will be sharing a booth with the Refuge Association handing our information about our club and the refuge.  We will also be helping out with the BBQ Food Booth, with profits going to the photo club.

Oct. 15, Saturday… Whooping Crane Pen Work Day… NO REGULAR MEETING

Meet at 9am… Map available if you sign up, please let me know if you plan to attend at snapp@natureinfocus.com.

We will load up in pickups and other vehicles and drive to the site.  There is approximately a ½ mile walk.  We need lots of help getting the pen site ready for our 2011 birds.  We will clean up around the blind area, put palm fans in the walk way, re-tie the wire around the fence; add new electrical fence wire and other items.  Best to wear rubber boots or shoes you don’t mind getting muddy, and bring gloves.

Oct. 22, Saturday… Monarch Festival

Refuge visitors center… 9am set up

Photo Club will have our booth set up to sell photo cards, book marks and photos.

We will be selling souvenir photos with the monarch wings, and the “Blue Goose”

If you haven’t heard, the Association ordered us our own “Puddles” The Blue Goose refuge mascot.

Nov 19, Saturday… Photo Club Meeting… And… Open House for the Holidays

Meet at “Nature’s Classroom”… Wagon ride Safari trip… time to be decided.

We may need to meet before our normal 9am time, to prepare for our Open House.

Open House for the Holidays:

This is the third year the Photo Club has hosted this day to promote sales for our Nature Store.  We want to make things bigger and better this year.  Along with kid’s crafts and free cookies and cider, we plan to have Chili lunch (for a donation), free photos with the Blue Goose and all day wagon rides.  Planning still in the works so if you have any ideas or can stay after the club meeting and help out please let Teresa know.  More info to follow.

Don’t forget to check out the Refuge Calendar for other events.

Please email snapp@natureinfocus.com if you will be coming to Crane Pen Work day.

Also send email to snapp@natureinfocus.com if you can help Teresa for Open House for the Holidays.
