News & Updates #21 - May 21, 2008

This afternoon we met with the Wakulla County Emergency Management Director Scott Nelson and the Leon County Emergency Management Team, Jeri Bush & Michael Edwards, from VolunteerLEON.  We had 5 men present representing Men’s Fraternity of Wakulla.  A great deal was covered in the 2 hour meeting from what would happen to Wakulla County if a category 3 hurricane were to hit our coast to when and where we can have a Disaster Preparedness & Response Training in our county.  More will come from this meeting as we plan and prepare to “be prepared”.  Keep a watch on our website and these News & Up-dates each week as progress begins to unfold.  We will also post information in the local media and Wakulla.com .

At present, the Disaster Relief training is still a go for June 7th with Florida Baptist Disaster Relief (check the calendar on our website for details: (www.byHISgrace.cc/MensFraternityofWakulla ).  While there, go to News & Up-Dates and scroll down to Disaster Relief News and check out the story about the recent tornado in Capitola, just a few miles from here.  That could have been Crawfordville, Panacea, Sopchoppy or St. Marks.

I want to thank Craig, Josh, John, Gene, & Mike for helping me finish up that last ramp and for loading & unloading all that left over material this past week. Guys, it truly could not have gotten done without you. THANKS!!!

Be watching for the article in our local news media about Neighbors helping Neighbors as we promote some of the activities of Men’s Fraternity of Wakulla to our community. You know, this work would not be possible if it were not for men coming together to help our neighbors in need, and that’s only a small part of what this organization is all about. Check out articles on Wakulla.com as well.

As I had mentioned before the format of our gatherings has shifted somewhat; we still gather around 6:30 p.m. for fellowship and refreshments (for those who can make it), then around 7:00 we’ll get into some discussion time from the Stand Firm Daily Devotional for men.  (current books have been ordered). Last week our discussion was on “when men don’t go to church”, it was an interesting discussion. This week we’ll discuss “Wisdom at the Woodshed, Passed over (job related), or  some things about love & family life. The discussion can go most anywhere, we might even talk about what hits your “hot” button!!

Remember, we meet behind Cornerstone Ministries in the doublewide “Outback”, which is behind that big clump of trees & bushes. Swing around to the right of the church and come straight back. We’ll leave the light on for ya’.

By the way, I’ve talked with several people about these News & Up-dates by e-mail and several have said they don’t read their e-mail that often, that being the case, we’re trying to find an ‘inexpensive’ way of communicating the information. If you have any suggestions, that would help. One suggestion might be when you’re hanging around the coffee pot or water cooler or traveling to or from somewhere with a friend or co-worker you might mention us or print a copy and give it to a friend. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Thanx.

Partnering together in HIS Service.
