On Saturday, Keep Wakulla County Beautiful held its twice yearly Household Hazardous Waste day!  It's a joint effort between our Wakulla County Commissioners, Jefferson County Solid Waste, Veolia, and yes, Keep Wakulla County Beautiful!
Residents in 109 vehicles came to Trice Lane to get rid of batteries, paints, solvents, cleaning fluids, used oil, and computer parts. Yes, our residents braved that 100% chance of rain we didn't get, and they cleaned out their garages and storage rooms!

Nope, no bombs or purple dye this year!  We're getting really good at it (if I say so in all modesty) and we even set up tents, since, of course, it was supposed to rain.

Well, drivers were supposed to go under a tent, where big strong guys would take away their cans of paint and so forth.  One woman said, "This is just too cool!  It's like driving through a fast food restaurant!"

We worked from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Everybody seemed pleased.  I walked away with someone's silver and brass cleaner, Lysol tub and tile cleaner and window cleaner.  All never used.  It pays to work at Household Hazardous Waste Day!

Thanks to all residents who braved the potential torrents of rain and came to Household Hazardous Waste Day!  And thanks to TexPar Energy LLC for picking up the non hazardous materials like old oil and antifreeze and to Creative Recycling Systems who took the electronics.

Also, you wouldn't believe what Winn-Dixie is up to!  They're planning to add some landscaping to their parking lot area!  And, they're planning to assimilate some of the existing county themes... such as the fencing at Azalea and Hudson Parks and at the library.  A little birdie has told me of palms, carissa holly, native grasses and more!  The new location director, Maurice Burgess, is trying to make big changes to the store.  I'm really excited!  If more businesses try to do what Maurice is trying to do, we will really have a more Beautiful Wakulla County!
