Become a "Paws in Prison" Program Pioneer and Change Lives in the Process

$150 dollars is what it takes.

To be a pioneer.   To be in at the beginning, at the ground floor.

CHAT, The Wakulla County Humane Society,  The Wakulla County Correctional Institute and Jay King of Camp Bow Wow  (Jay designed UTOPIA program at the Taylor County Correctional facility), have partnered in the Paws In Prison Program here in Wakulla County.

Starting this June, every eight weeks we will be selecting 12 dogs from the CHAT Adoption Center in Wakulla County and placing them in a training/socialization program in Wakulla County Correctional Institute.

After eight weeks of round-the-clock care, training and attention by inmates carefully selected for this program, these animals will be ‘released’ from the institution and made available for public adoption.

In addition to being socialized, crate trained, house broken and obedience trained, each dog will be healthy, and either spayed or neutered, and fully ready to be adopted by a loving home after eight weeks.  He will be 'ultra-adoptable.'

The benefit to the inmate, and thereby to our society and community is immeasurable, as you will see in the video.  This is a win-win-win-win-win program for animals, inmates, institutions, the public and pet owners.

I’m asking you to be one of the twelve pioneers in this program.  The $150 will go to purchase the crate, bedding, bowls and leashes needed for each animal.  (All of which will be reused as other dogs pass through the program.)

All Pioneers will have a plaque made with their name on it that will be attached to the crate forever.  I realize this would not be the reason you would decide to become a pioneer, but please allow US to do show how important you will have been to the start of the program.

If you want to join, if you wish to be a Pioneer in the Wakulla Paws In Prison Program, simply contact me at sherms@mindspring.com right now and tell me you are IN.   I’ll write you back and tell you where to send your check for $150.  Again, this is a one-time expense for materials and equipment needed to start the program.

Many thanks for your support for this progressive and all important program.

Cathy Sherman, Director
