Rebecca Zapen at Posh Java on Saturday, May 5

Rebecca-Zapen-249x187Rebecca Zapen returns to Posh Java in Sopchoppy, on Saturday, May 5.

Zapen, who drew a large crowd at her first performance at Posh Java, is a classically trained violinist whose original music is a refreshing blend of swing, classical, klezmer, country folk, rock, jazz and cabaret.  Very versatile as a performer, Zapen endears audiences with her diverse musical capabilities and universally appealing songs.  Stories about her experiences come to life in her music capturing a simple yet complex and intensely personal journey.  Her latest CD, “Nest,” was deemed the “Florida album of the Year,” and a review in the Florida-Times Union described the CD as, “pulling at your collar and tugging at your sleeves long after the first play.”

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Zapen’s earliest musical memories include sitting beneath the grand piano while her mother practiced Chopin.  Having come from a family deeply rooted in music, it is no wonder why Zapen is such an accomplished performer, singing, strumming on the ukulele and guitar, and writing meaningful songs we all can identify with and enjoy.

Jazz guitarist and composer, LaRue Nickelson from the Tampa Bay area, has had a varied and diverse musical career recording and performing with many different groups.  With over 40 compositions to his credit, he has released two solo projects, titled Dark Water and Labyrinthitis featuring his original compositions.  LaRue’s ensemble recently performed in the Clearwater Jazz Holiday.  He is the jazz guitar instructor at the University of South Florida.

Listen to Zapen at www.zapen.com and Nickelson at www.laruenickelson.com.  For reservations, contact Posh Java at (850) 962-1010 or email poshjava@gmail.com.  Entrance is $10 a seat and the show starts at 8pm.
