Low Flying Planes to Make Sopchoppy Opry Debut June 25

low-flying-planes-pic-249x187-gif-versionHello, Opry Fans! It’s hot outside and the Sopchoppy Opry is sizzling, too!  With more great classic country music, that is! Last month’s show was rated among the top five ever performed during the Opry’s eleven year run!  Look who South Bound Band has selected as their special guests for the June 25-7 pm show!  It’s LOW FLYING PLANES!  LFP is the band with the unusual name but packs a powerful sound and the fantastic music that we all love!  Also appearing, the dynamic duo of song, Bill & Karen Gay!  This show will have variety, humor and some of the best music anywhere, all for just $10!  Call 962-3711 and get your tickets!

When LFP band leader Randy Hock is asked how the band got its name, he usually answers with, ‘It’s a long story’ and ‘it has something to do with the Panacea International Airport sign’.  “The name is different and no doubt gets us some attention but we want our music to do the talking,” Randy adds.  Wow!  What a band!  Look at the experience and musical talent!

Randy sings, guitar, slide, and harmonica.  He says it all began at age 3 when he started whistling which lead to the piano at 8, banjo & guitar at 11 and onto Leon High School and the chorus.  In college, Randy played with the Southern Star Band. Currently and in between performances with LFP, he’s a tennis instructor.

A piano teacher by profession, Cary Moon started with the piano at 4 and later studied violin, trombone and guitar while earning a Masters Degree in Music.  Along with playing keyboards with LFP, Cary’s experience includes performing as a session musician in Nashville.

Bobby Adams is the bass man for LFP and brings to the group a range of performing experiences.  At 8, he was playing piano. Later came the guitar and trombone.  He joined the Soniks Band in high school and would later perform with the Jolt Band and the Big Kahunas.  Bobby’s ‘real’ job is with the DEP where is works as an Operations Manager and Consultant.

On his 4th grade report card, Scott Johnson’s teacher told his parents to buy him a drum set because ‘he’s beating on his books, desk, and his fellow students’!  They did and Scott went on to play drums in a high school band - The Thorns of Briarwood - where he performed for sock hops all over the Tampa Bay area.  After graduating from Stetson University, he taught himself guitar and formed his own rock band, Bandage.  Scott has  50 original songs to his credit.  In addition to his music, Scott works as a private consultant, lobbyist, public speaker and author.

Bill-and-Karen-Gay-225Rounding out the LFP musical family is Bill Gay.  Bill started playing guitar around the San Francisco area as a teenager and moved to Florida in 1973 where he’s played with several rock and country bands.  Bill says his true love is country and blues.  He performs with wife Karen in the ‘Bill & Karen’ acoustic duo and  as the “Honeybone Band”.  On occasion, he plays bass with the blues-rock group ‘Bogazedi’ and the ‘Songwriters Listening Room’, an acoustic based songwriters group.  Bill & Karen have appeared as special guests on the Sopchoppy Opry over the years, always delighting fans with their vocal and musical talents!  Bill will play lead guitar on the South Bound portion of the June 25 Opry and join Karen for some of their ‘dynamic duo’ tunes as well.  Bill earns his living as a UPS driver in Tallahassee.

This is going to be a great show!  South Bound Band, Bill & Karen Gay and the Low Flying Planes!  Get your tickets early!  Call 962-3711.
