Dear WCHS Members and Others Interested in Local History,
It was good to see so many of you at our January meeting and I know we all enjoyed hearing Dell Gray tell of his many memories of Spring Creek in the mid-20th century. You will also enjoy our next meeting, which will be at the Welcome Center in Panacea, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7pm. Sherrie Posey Miller and Bonnie Holub are planning a program that will tell the history of Panacea and will have pictures, light refreshments and fellow-ship before hearing speakers from the area.
{sidebar id=1}At the January meeting of the WCHS Board, decisions were made to try to move forward with the creation of our Museum. The state’s financial picture seems to worsen daily causing us to wonder if we’ll ever receive further funding for the completion of the job begun a decade ago. We will continue to push for grant funding but in the meantime, we plan to go into renovation of the first floor of the old jail as we are physically and financially able. We are closing our thrift shop and hope to get things cleared out by March 31. Madeleine Carr, museum grant writer, will be directing a committee in making plans for the process and will be planning ways for members of the community as well as Society members to help achieve the Society’s foremost objective, a Mueum. You will be hearing more about this project!
The Society will be represented in booths at three upcoming events in Crawfordville:
The Rotary Club’s Valentine Festival on 2/9, the Wakulla Presbyterian Church’s Arts & Crafts Festival on 3/1, and the Lion’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival on 3/15. We could always use volunteers to help man the booths and we also would like to have everyone stop by to check us out!
One last important notice: The Heritage of Wakulla Co., FL book will be printed and on sale in time for Christmas this year! Get your stories in; our final deadline is March 31.
It is important that all families are represented in this book. Brochures are at the Library or you may e-mail me or call me and I will get one in the mail to you.
See you Feb. 12 at Panacea!
