Wakulla County Rotary Club Hosts Several Guest Speakers

susan yelton joanne david harvey 250.jpgThe Wakulla County Rotary Club has enjoyed a variety of interesting guest speakers during their past few meetings.  Wakulla County Sheriff David Harvey and Citizens for Humane Treament of Animals (C.H.A.T.) Volunteer Susan Yelton were the guest speakers at the August 23, 2007 meeting.  Harvey and Yelton spoke about the over-population problem of stray dogs and cats in Wakulla County, and about how important it is to spay and neuter our pets.  The Wakulla Animal Shelter is currently selling tickets to win a Harley-Davidson FXSTC Softail Custom motorcycle as a fundraiser for the Wakulla County shelter.  Those interested in a ticket can call the Shelter at 936-0890, or the Sheriff's Office at 926-0800.  (Pictured above:  Susan Yelton, JoAnne Strickland, and Sheriff David Harvey)

betty green 250.jpgBetty Green, President of the Wakulla County Historical Society, was the guest speaker at the August 30 meeting.  Green spoke to the club about the various projects being carried out by the Historical Society at this time, including the "Village"; a collection of old homes and other old structures from Wakulla County that will be placed on a parcel of county owned land located at the corner of Floyd Gray and Lawhon Mill Roads.  The new equestrian center and the Florida Wild Mammal Association will also be located on the property.  The Historical Society plans to restore all the old buildings and turn them into a living museum that can be enjoyed by the public.

Green also discussed a book that will be created by Wakulla County residents about the history of Wakulla County.  Any Wakulla County citizen can write an article about their family's history in Wakulla County for the book, no matter how long they have lived in Wakulla.  The book will be called “The Heritage of Wakulla County.”  Stories must be turned in to Green no later than October 31, 2007.

The Wakulla County Rotary presented each guest speaker with a personalized coffee mug, and also presented Betty Green with a check for $250 to be used towards the Historical Society's projects.  (Pictured above:  JoAnne Strickland and Betty Green)

The Wakulla County Rotary Club meets every Thursday from noon to 1:00 at the Wakulla County Senior Center.
