Local Area Bikers Show Support for CHAT

harley dog 2 175.jpgThe 2nd Annual Paws Poker Run, organized by Citizens for Humane Animal Treatment (CHAT), was held on Saturday, October 7, 2006.  Approximately 120 motorcyclists came out to participate in the event, helping to raise several thousand dollars for CHAT and the Wakulla County Animal Shelter.

The cyclists started out at the Wakulla County Animal Shelter, and from there made subsequent stops at Sandbanks Restaurant in Sopchoppy, Posey's Steam Room in Panacea, Riverside Cafe in St. Marks, Savannah's at Wakulla Station, and Bellamy's Outdoor Sports in Crawfordville, picking up one card for their poker hand at each location.  The riders ended up at Hudson Park in Crawfordville for a celebration which included a barbecue chicken dinner, music by the teen duo Pink Shoelaces, vendors, a silent auction and raffle, and prizes for the best and worst poker hands.

Kenneth Davis won the top prize of $500 for the Best Poker Hand, and Alice Swartz won $100 for having the Worst Poker Hand.  Kenneth Davis also won the 50/50 raffle in the amount of $150.

"It seemed that everybody had a good time, and we managed to raise some money for the animals at the same time," said event organizer Heide Clifton.  Clifton added that the exact amount raised won't be known until the rest of the bills come in.  "I would like to thank all of our sponsors and volunteers who helped out with this years' event.  We could not have done it without them."
