Purvis Brothers Return For Opry Encore!
The 2007 Sopchoppy Opry season may be winding down, but the talent and great shows just keep on coming! And so do the fans! Seven of the eight shows so far this season were sold out prior to show time and tickets for the September 29 Opry with Southbound’s special guests, the Purvis Brothers, Susie Elkins, Johnny Calloway and Skip Johns are going fast!
“Opry fans are encouraged to get their tickets early for this one”, says Bob Sims, Talent Coordinator and Lead Guitarist for the popular classic country show. “This is a talented group of entertainers and all have lots of fans among the Opry faithful and throughout the Big Bend.”
“It has been 11 months since the Purvis Brothers performed on the Opry stage in historic Sopchoppy High Auditorium, but to their hundreds of fans, it seems like much longer.
"The ticket office reports that dozens of calls have been received since that October ’06 show inquiring about the Purvis Brothers return,” Bob adds. “We were waiting for just the right combination of talent for this show and now we’ve got it with the Purvis Brothers, Susie, Johnny and Skip. This is going to be a very special night at the Sopchoppy Opry!”

The Purvis Brothers
The Purvis Brothers – Mike, Wendell and Frank – are from Monticello, Florida where they grew up and have played music together for the past three decades. The brothers as a group and individually, perform regularly on the Monticello Jamboree, a weekly country music show and dance held at the Jefferson County American Legion. They were recently featured on the Perry (FL) Opry, a country show sponsored by radio station WPRY and spend weekends playing at special events. We are honored to have the Purvis Brothers back on the Opry stage for an Encore appearance!
Susie Elkins and Johnny Calloway, the Opry’s own dynamic duo will perform during Southbound’s hour of the show! Susie, ‘Tallahassee’s Sweetheart of Country Music’ is making her second visit to the Opry stage and fans are looking for a repeat of her fantastic ’06 performance! Johnny “Mr. Country” Calloway is a regular on the Opry and is known for his powerful singing voice and special renditions of country’s up-tempo songs. Both artists play guitar and will be accompanied by Southbound Band.
Skips Johns, a Lake City, FL native now living in Tallahassee, will make his Opry debut on the September 29 show! Skip grew up in a musical family and has played most of his life. His favorite instruments are the banjo and guitar and Skip has chosen his banjo and the popular tunes, ‘Misty’, ‘Reuben’ and ‘Home Sweet Home’ for his first Sopchoppy Opry appearance! Bob Sims and Southbound Band are so impressed by Skip, that he and his band The Travelers have been booked for the October 27 Opry! Stay tuned Opry fans! More information to come on Skip Johns and The Travelers! (Tickets for that show go on sale Monday, October 1.)
All this and a brand new show by Southbound! Hey folks! It just doesn’t get any better than this! Showtime is 7 pm.
