Col. Wayne Martin & Country Gold Back For March 29 Show
{sidebar id=3}It has been said that ‘variety is the spice of life’ and the Sopchoppy Opry’s Musical Coordinator Bob Sims is surely a believer in the principle as evidenced by the first two shows of the 2008 season! January featured the High Mileage Band whose members play a variety of instruments – wind and string – and music from several different genres! Then it was the NewGrass Generation in February, a group of middle schools girls, classically trained violinists all, who burned up the stage with the great Blue Grass hits made famous by the likes of Bill Munroe, Ricky Skaggs, et al! What a variety for the first two months of the season!
And for the Saturday, March 29 - 7:00 p.m. show, Bob returns to the traditional Opry roots and the show theme will feature some of the best classic country (music) and musicians anywhere! During the first hour, Southbound, as always, will perform a brand new set of the great classics complimented by the powerful voice of Johnny ‘Mr. Country’ Calloway, the vocal renditions of the beautiful and talented Ms. Judy Foster along with a debut performance by Gospel newcomer, Dick Bickford!
During the second hour, Colonel Wayne Martin & The Country Gold Band of Callahan Restaurant fame will play a set of country’s best loved music with a style that has cultivated literally thousands of fans over the years and made it a favorite among Opry faithful! The band features leader Wayne Martin, a two-time state fiddle champion, peddle steel, lead and rhythm guitarist and great vocalists, all in a show that is sure to entertain every lover of country music! Don’t miss Col. Wayne Martin & Country Gold! See ‘em right here at the Opry, Saturday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m. in historic Sopchoppy High School Auditorium!
Ms. Judy Foster has been a favorite performer on the Opry for several years and a devoted supporter of the restoration effort! She sings, works as a volunteer and is a season ticket holder! Judy is a regular in the entertainment circuit around the Big Bend and a special friend of the Opry! Her presence is always a treat!
"Mr. Country” Johnny Calloway won the hearts of Opry fans at his debut three years ago and his popularity grows with every visit! Johnny serves as the ‘on-stage ‘ host when he performs at the Opry and fans enjoy his humor, voice range and powerful stage presence as he sings classic and contemporary country tunes with his own unique style. So, here’s Johnny, Opry fans! Don’t miss him!
Dick Bickford will make his Opry debut March 29 with two Gospel songs especially for the occasion! Dick and his wife are Opry season tickets holders and among the favorite supporters of classic country and Gospel music. We welcome Dick to the Opry stage and wish him all the best in his debut!
All this and another brand new (and great) Southbound Band show, too! Bob Sims and Band rehearse 18 to 20 new songs for every Sopchoppy Opry show! This means that you, the Opry fan, will hear new music every month! Southbound, due to its longevity, talented musicians, experience and penchant for rehearsing, is one of the top rated bands in the tri-states! But we already knew that!
Come early and enjoy some world class desserts and entree’s before the show, then get ready for the best country music in the South! Concessions and box office open at 5:30 p.m., showtime is 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8. Call 962-3711 for tickets and information.
We look forward to seeing you at the Sopchoppy Opry,
March 29 – 7 p.m.!
