Benefit Concert will Feature Grant Peeples and Roy Zimmerman 

A benefit concert will be held on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 8:15 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on Lake Ella in Tallahassee.  Proceeds from the concert will go to support the Wakulla Independent Reporter newspaper.  Tickets are $10 each reserved and $12 each at the door. 

"The Wakulla Independent Reporter may be America’s only newspaper that had to go to court to prove that it is, in fact, a newspaper. With help from the ACLU, the paper’s one-woman staff, publisher/reporter/editor Julia Hanway, defended her paper against the Florida Elections Commission’s attempt to kill the Reporter. The agency ordered Hanway to stop publishing, accusing the paper of “electioneering.” Once Hanway's lawsuit was filed, on the eve of the final hearing, when it was clear the agency's position was indefensible, the agency retracted the charge and promised the judge they would never bother the Reporter again. Today, Hanway continues to publish in-depth stories on local government, along with news, recipes, nature photos, book reviews, and travel tales. The paper, which is sent free to every Wakulla County postal customer, accepts no advertising and is paid for entirely by donations."
