Obituary for Wilfred Earl "Smitty" Smith
Wilfred Earl "Smitty" Smith, 77, died at his home in Sopchoppy on Sunday, July 22, 2007. He was a self-employed truck driver and construction worker. The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Ochlockonee Christian Center in Sopchoppy with burial following at West Sopchoppy Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, at Harvey-Young Funeral Home in Crawfordville, Florida.
Wilfred Earl "Smitty" Smith was born in Jacksonville, Florida and moved to Sopchoppy in 1994. He built Ochlockonee Christian Center and was on the Ochlockonee Christian Center board. He was caretaker of Sopchoppy City Park, and volunteered his time and talent to help many people in Wakulla County with their remodeling needs.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Smith, of Sopchoppy. He is also survived by five sons: Billy Smith, David Smith, and Randal Smith, all of Jacksonville, Florida, Robert Smith of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and James Fowler of Lakeland, Florida; three daughters: Lori Strickland and Patsy Dunning, both of Sopchoppy, Florida, and Mary McGinnis of Lutz, Florida; three brothers: George Smith of Jacksonville, Florida, Herbert Smith of Youngstown, Florida, and Robert Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; and one sister: Mary Alice Smith of Jacksonville, Florida. He had 26 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
