Helen Finch Kyle, 88, of Smith Creek, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
She was born in Des Moines, IA, and grew up to be a wonderful athlete, playing softball, ice hockey, basketball and figure skating. She was the fast-pitcher for her city softball team, winning the state championship three years in a row.
She was a veteran of World War II. She joined the Navy and was stationed at Mare Island, CA for most of the war. There she met her future husband, J.C. Kyle of Smith Creek.
After the war, they moved to Wakulla County and ran a bee-keeping business. She also worked as a pharmacy assistant at Wakulla Pharmacy in Crawfordville for 19 years. She was a devoted member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary for many years, and also was the church organist.
She is survived by two daughters: Vickie Kyle of Tallahassee and Lora Martin (husband, Larry Martin) of LaVergne, TN. She has five grandchildren. Vickie has three daughters: Christy of Crawfordville, and Beverly Nicole and Barbara of Tallahassee. Lora has a daughter, Leana, of Riverview, FL and a son, Kyle, of Rochester, N.Y. She also has three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Kyle, Jr., her sister, Evelyn Zenor and her brother, Donald Finch, both of Crawfordville, FL.
She had a great sense of humor, and was a friend to everyone she met. She was greatly loved, and will be missed by all, but she is now in the arms of her Heavenly Father.
