Southern Portion of St. Marks Trail Closed for Resurfacing
Written by Dee Ann Miller, DEP Wednesday, 26 May 2010 09:58
TALLAHASSEE — Improvements to the safety and usability of the St. Marks Trail are now in progress. Six miles of the southern end of the trail in Wakulla County, from SR 267 to Riverside Dr. in the City of St. Marks, will be closed for up to eight months.
Resurfacing the trail which was originally paved 20 years ago is the primary objective of this project. The resurfacing will address bumps, dips, crumbling edges and drop offs at the edge of the pavement that have occurred with age. This repaving project also provides an opportunity to widen the trail from eight to 12 feet. This trail is heavily used and widening it to the 12-foot industry standard will expand capacity and ensure greater safety for users.
