Public Transit Work Group Forming in Wakulla
Any citizen interested in using public transit – or helping to bring public transit to Wakulla County – is invited to attend an initial meeting on Monday, October 19 at 6:00 pm. The new work group will meet in the Commission Chambers on Arran Road in the brick building that also houses the Tax Collector’s Office.
{sidebar id=1}At the meeting on October 19, suggestions will be sought as to when, where, and for whom public transit is needed. For example, if express vans or buses are needed for workers and students commuting to and from Tallahassee, where and when should the vans pick up riders? If vans are needed to take children to after-school activities, what destinations should be offered? Will children also need transportation home afterwards?
Do seniors need public transit to and from the Senior Center – or to shop at grocery stores and pharmacies? Which communities most need these services and on what days and times?
After collecting information about ridership needs and preferences, the public transit work group will review other public transit systems. Presentations describing commuter van services in other counties will be scheduled for future meetings. Possible sources of funding for public transit also will be reviewed. The goal is to develop a public transit proposal that will meet the needs of Wakulla County citizens.
For more information – or to submit suggestions if you cannot attend the meeting, please contact Jessica Welch at 926-0919 or email jwelch@mywakulla.com .
