Pearson Foundation to Donate Books to Youth Attending Children's Week at State Capitol

childrens week logo.gifThe United Way of Florida announced today the Pearson Foundation will be the Literacy Partner for the 15th Annual Children’s Week at the State Capitol.  The partnership will donate hundreds of books to youth attending the Legislative Reading Corner event on April 13 during Children’s Week.

{sidebar id=1}Parents, young children and school classes are encouraged to attend this fun and educational event on Tuesday, April 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.  State Legislators will break away from their busy schedules to read to young children ages 2-6 years old, and the Pearson Foundation will provide complimentary books for the children to take home.  To participate in the event, teachers and parents can RSVP by e-mail to info@childrensweek.org.

Children's Week is the largest statewide civic education event for children and families in Florida.  Community events take place in all 67 counties, and thousands of families travel to Tallahassee to participate in the Children’s “Capitol for a Day” on April 13.

From now through Children’s Week more than 80 statewide partners and organizations, including the Pearson Foundation, are teaming up to host a multitude of events and activities designed to promote the education, health, safety and well-being of children and families across the Sunshine State.

“The Legislative Reading Corner gives parents, teacher, and State Legislators the chance model citizenship to young people by gathering together to read,” said Pearson Foundation President, Mark Nieker. “The Pearson Foundation is providing books as part of this celebration because each visit to the State Capitol should offer a young person the opportunity to embrace civic engagement.”

For more information and to view a complete listing of events, including how to reserve a complimentary lunch for kids at the State Capitol, please visit www.childrensweek.org.

All activities are free and open to the public.  For more information please contact Jason Zaborske, Children’s Week Statewide Coordinator at info@childrensweek.org  or call 850-251-7274.
