What's Available at Saturday's Sopchoppy Harvest Grower's Market

sopchoppy-harvest-growers-market-249x187-gif-versionThe Sopchoppy Harvest Growers’ Market will feature more produce this Saturday, January 29th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Following is the list of produce and items that will be offered at market this weekend, for your convenience.  For this market, and all that follow, we are going to talk to the growers and give our email customers a list of everything we expect at market each week.  It is very important to support these farmers so they will return, spread the news to other growers, and help the Sopchoppy market continue to grow and thrive.

At market this Saturday:

Crescent Moon Farm from Sopchoppy is bringing:  Elephant Garlic; green garlic; arugula; collards, sprouts, cane syrup and Jack’s bread.

The Barnhardt Family from Monticello in Jefferson County is bringing:  Kohlrabi; red mustard, red Russian kale, spinach, turnips; collards; broccoli; curly mustard; cabbage; garlic with tops; rutabagas with tops; oranges and kumquats.  The Barnhardts will also have Pomelos which resemble grapefruit, but are a species in their own right and are an ancestor of the grapefruit, and not a hybrid.  The flesh is pinkish-yellow and easily separates into segments.

We apologize for advertising that Serenity Acres from Pinetta, in Madison County, was bringing goats milk and five different types of goats milk cheese last week.  We have personally spoken to the owners and they assure us that they will be at market in mid-February.

Frank Lindamood (guitar and banjo) and Chelsea Dix Kessler (fiddle) will be performing from 11am to 1pm.  They will be playing old-time Americana, bluegrass, some of Lindamood’s originals and country music.  Tips are always appreciated.

Also, on Saturday Yarrow Pellbring will be offering Bach Flower consultations from 11am to 3pm.  A separate article has been published describing this event.

We sincerely hope this helps you prepare for market.  Again, if you know any growers or individuals who have edible plants that they do not spray or synthetically fertilize, please tell them about this market and encourage them to participate.  We are committed to making the Sopchoppy Harvest Growers’ Market a success, supporting small organic method farmers, and in offering customers a chance to buy locally produced food that is not sprayed or altered.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Debra E. Dix & Pat Bishop
