NAMI Wakulla to Offer Twelve Week Family-to-Family Class
Written by Dr. Andrea Carter Tuesday, 10 January 2012 08:07
NAMI-Wakulla will be offering a free, 12-week course for families, friends and partners of individuals who have a mental illness.
The course covers the most recent scientific findings about mental illness and teaches techniques for handling mental illness within the family. Many participants describe their experience in the class as life-changing and credit the knowledge and coping skills obtained in the Family-to-Family class with improving the emotional climate in their homes. A 2011 research study reported in the journal of the American Psychiatric Association that the Family-to-Family education program offered by NAMI “significantly” improved the problem-solving abilities of family members of individuals living with mental illness.
Interested individuals may telephone the NAMI Wakulla office for more information and to pre-register. The class is offered at no cost and will run Monday evenings from February 6 through April 23.
