Listening Session to be Held RE: Meeting the Needs of Wakulla's Struggling Families
Written by Bruce AShley, President, Wakulla County Coalition for Youth Sunday, 15 January 2012 12:08
Many community leaders have indicated a desire to do a better job of meeting the basic needs of Wakulla families struggling in this economy to buy food, pay utility bills and rent or mortgage when due. It is with this in mind that you are invited to a meeting on Monday, February 13, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon to learn how other rural communities are addressing social service needs.
The meeting will be a "Listening Session", facilitated by Brunie Emmanuel. Brunie is the Project Manager for the Fund for Gulf Communities - Florida - an initiative under Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, funded through Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. They are working in other communities to build the resilience of individuals and families affected by the Oil Spill, and will share some of the lessons learned thus far. He is mainly here to listen to the issues our people are struggling with, however, in hopes of helping us find solutions.
It is hoped the meeting will:
Articulate and clarify some of the challenges Wakulla faces in providing for basic needs of struggling families; ie., what is the data, how many, who are they, what are their needs
Discuss ways to establish or improve lines of communication between those who can provide and those who are in need
Lay out possible routes to needed resources
Evaluate the establishment of a central coordinating council to share the heavy load
We look forward to seeing you at the IFAS Extension Office, 84 Cedar Avenue, Crawfordville, FL 32327 on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. prompt.
Thank you for all you do for the health and welfare of Wakulla’s people.
