FSU Coastal & Marine Lab to Present Lecture on Sea Level Rise: Climatic Causes and Effects

digging-in-marsh-249x187-gifversionThe Florida State University Coastal & Marine Lab Conservation Lecture Series presents "Sea Level Rise:  The Climatic Causes and the Effects" on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the FSUCML Auditorium.  The presentation will be given by Dr. Jeff Chanton of FSU.

Is Global Warming  real?  Could it have any effect on Florida?  This presentation will inform you about the effects of climate change on the earth and how sea level may change.

Two factors may cause sea level to rise, melting ice on land and warming seawater temperatures.  Recent measurements indicate that the sea level rise rate has increased by as much as a factor of two.  Factors influencing the earth's heat budget climate and the earth's response will be presented.

dr-jeff-chantonDr. Chanton is a chemical oceanographer whose research focus includes wetlands and food webs.  He received his Ph.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill and is the John W. Winchester professor of Oceanography at FSU.  He is involved in the new Biogeochemical Dynamics Program at Florida State University, an interdisciplinary research-oriented, graduate-only program within the FSU College of Arts and Sciences which focuses on environmental biogeochemistry.

Please join us for light refreshments after the talk to chat with Dr. Chanton.

THe FSU Coastal & Marine Laboratory is located at 3618 Coastal Highway in St. Teresa, Florida.  For more information, call (850)697-4120.
