Wakulla County Democratic Executive Committee will Meet Thursday, Feb. 28
The Wakulla County Democratic Executive Committee, the local branch of the Democratic Party, is having an exciting meeting this Thursday at 7PM at the Wakulla TCC campus. The WCDEC is hosting several speakers of note and the meeting is open to the public. There will be light refreshments.
The House District 10 Race is heating up. This past summer, when there were only 2 candidates running to replace Rep. Kendrick, the DEC hosted them. The WCDEC hosted, and look forward to hosting again, AJ Smith from Franklin County and Monticello Mayor Julie Conley. Recently a 3rd Democrat has entered the race, and this Thursday, candidate Leonard Bembry, from Greenville, is scheduled to attend the meeting and share with all who are interested why he is running for the state house.
{sidebar id=1}In addition, the local DEC will also be discussing the delegate situation. The Democratic National Committee has said that because Florida’s Presidential Primary broke their rules that none of Florida’s delegates will be allowed to vote at the National Convention. The Florida Democratic Party has stated that it believes that its delegates will count, and is moving forward with their selection. Because of this situation the local Democratic Committee is bringing down DNC Staffer Sandra Lyons and Florida Democratic Party Staffer Alexis Searfoss to discuss the current delegate situation, superdelegates, and how people from Wakulla County can become delegates themselves. That is, if Florida’s delegates are restored.
This Saturday, March 1, 2008 from 10AM to 12:15PM at City Hall in Tallahassee the 2nd Congressional District’s delegate elections will be held, and there are 4 Wakulla County Democrats trying to be elected. There is more information available at www.wakullademocrats.org or by calling 926-3828.
If you enjoy politics 2008 is going to be an exciting year. Now is the time to get involved if you want to participate later. The Wakulla County DEC hopes to see you on Thursday.
