Old Jail Thrift Shop in Crawfordville Liquidating for Renovations

Old Jail Thrift Shop in Crawfordville Liquidating for Renovations

oldjail-2 150.gif The Wakulla County Museum and Archives is taking another step toward completion. The interior renovations to the former county jail will begin this summer.

The Wakulla County Historical Society has labored for a decade to renovate the county's former jail on High Street in Crawfordville, across from the Old Wakulla County Courthouse.  With the help of a few small grants from the Division of Historic Preservation, the 1948 Art Deco-style building was saved from crumbling into oblivion when the exterior and windows were restored.  The purpose is to save the building to become Wakulla County's museum and archives.  It will be a place that looks at all of the county's history and a place for genealogists to research their ancestors.

{sidebar id=1}The building is about to undergo more changes inside.  To prepare for those renovations of the first floor, the historical society's thrift shop will liquidate everything by the end of March.  No more donations will be accepted and we thank the community for all its assistance.  We've made several thousand dollars, but clearly, it is time to move on, to begin making this building the center for our fascinating history.

Visit the Thrift Store on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. until the end of March.  You'll find parts of family histories there, holiday decorations of all kinds, knick-knacks, books, and a general assortment of clothing and electronic items.
