You're Invited to Join New Big Bend Horseman's Association
The Big Bend Horseman’s Association (BBHA) is a family oriented club for horse lovers and enthusiasts of all ages and disciplines. The purpose of BBHA is to promote and improve equine activities, competitions, education, health, and understanding of horses throughout the Big Bend Area. We are centered in the Monticello community and draw members from as far away as Apalachicola to the West and Live Oak to the East.
As a fledgling organization, we invite all horse lovers to join us. Our meetings are the 2nd Monday of each month held at the College Park / Green Industries Building. You do not have to own a horse to join.
Some of the activities BBHA has sponsored include a trail class clinic given by Doyle Connor Jr. at Evil Twin Farms in Jefferson County, a trail ride at the Bar-C Ranch in Jefferson County, and an Old Time Cowboy Trade Day. These activities have been well received by the community with upwards of 65 people and horses participating.
Our inaugural horse show was Saturday, July 11th, at Evil Twin Farms in Lamont, Florida right outside of Monticello (Hwy. 19 South, just before it meets with Hwy. 27 (www.EvilTwinFarms.com ) and it was a huge success. The weather was perfect, the food was good, and the horses and riders showed up from as far as Apalachicola, Albany, and Old Town. “I can’t believe the turn out we had, I never expected to have so many people at our first show,” said Sherri Dean, owner of the farm. Over 28 riders and 32 different horses participated in classes from the in-hand classes to stick ponies. Spectators lined the arena like tailgaters at a FSU game to watch the show and enjoy the friendly atmosphere and entertaining commentary. “It was great to see old friends and make new ones, we can’t wait until next month,” stated one rider from Dixie County. “I especially liked the fact we could wear anything we want and be comfortable”.
Concessions were provided by Johnsons Meat Market. Everyone had a great time we are looking forward to the next show which is scheduled for August 8th. We have scheduled several horse shows for the remainder of the year which will fall on the second Saturday of the month. There is no cost for spectators and there will be plenty to eat from our concession stand.
Please visit our website at www.BigBendHorse.com for more information including our calendar of events, sponsorship listing and how to become a sponsor, membership application, show registration forms, and much more. Remember, you don’t have to own a horse we invite anyone to join us. We appreciate all the folks in the area who are helping to sponsor our events and make our club a success!
