Wakulla County Chamber of Commerce "HISTORY IN YOUR HAND" Fundraiser
The Wakulla County Chamber of Commerce and its Courthouse Restoration Committee is thrilled about the prospect of offering a piece of history.
The purchase of a brick from the construction of the original wooden courthouse, first erected in 1893-1894, allows you to hold history in your hand. These bricks, uncovered during the renovation and recent move to relocate the Courthouse to its current space, were the foundation of the courthouse. As you can imagine, there are only a limited number of these handmade bricks available but the stories they hold are numerous.
When turpentine was king, these bricks were there.
When The Wakulla News was formed, these bricks were there.
When the community once known as Lost Creek changed its name to Arran, these bricks were there.
A brass plate, affixed to the face of the brick, will read:
Each brick will come with a Certificate of Authenticity. These fragile bricks, hand made so many years ago, are being gently cleaned by hand today to try and preserve as many as possible.
A personalized engraved paver (3 lines available with 20 total spaces per line), to be placed around the newly renovated Courthouse landscape, will be available with the purchase of a commemorative brick. We will place our first order July 10. Since we have to order in increments of 100 pieces it may be a little while before our second order. All proceeds will go towards unpaid construction costs for the renovation of the old courthouse. The pavers should be installed by October.
Please call the Chamber office at 926-1848 for more information, or download the order form by clicking here !
