Annual Coastal Cleanup will be Held Saturday, September 20, 2008
by Marj Law, Keep Wakulla County Beautiful
Keep Wakulla County Beautiful announces the coming 2008 Coastal Cleanup!
Keep Wakulla County Beautiful’s Site Captains will be eager and ready to meet volunteers at 4 areas around Wakulla County at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning on September 20th. These 4 sites are:
• the park by the fort at St. Marks,
• Shell Point Beach by the pavilion,
• Wooley Park in Panacea, and
• Mashes Sand Beach at the parking lot.
Look for the FedEx trucks. They’ll mark the sites.
Choose the site you want, bringing your family or organization between 8 and 9:00 that Saturday morning. We’ll pick up trash, then we’ll go to Wooley Park in Panacea for a hot dog and soft drink lunch at 10:30.
There will be exhibits at the park, and KWCB will give out special t-shirts to commemorate the occasion.
We’ll give cash prizes for the group that collects the most cigarette butts at the Cleanup. Our “Weigh Your Butts” program draws attention to the fact that cigarette butts are by FAR the most numerous kind of trash littering our coastlines.
And yes, we’re bringing back “Litter Loot” to help our young folk remember that they worked hard and did a good thing for our environment and had a great time, too!
Join the Coastal Cleanup! Call 926-0830.
